Dr. Chari Larsen has been practicing pediatric observation medicine since 2014. She also practices as a general pediatrician within a pediatric emergency department. She received her medical degree at Creighton University School of Medicine and completed pediatric residency at the University of Utah. She is actively enrolled in an MBA program at the University of Utah and will receive this degree in May 2024.

Dr. Larsen is the medical director of the Rapid Treatment Unit, a pediatric observation unit, in Primary Children’s Hospital. This 16-bed unit has been operating since 1999 and continues to be highly successful. She has been an integral member of the design team for the Observation Unit, within a new Primary Children’s Hospital campus and will serve as their first medical director. Her experience and expertise spans both existing and new observation units.

She supervises and teaches pediatric and family medicine residents. She has led and been a part of many quality improvement and research projects. She has lectured locally and nationally about pediatric observation medicine. One of her academic goals is to create a national collaborative for pediatric observation medicine providers. She also has interests related to patient flow and process optimization.
