Robert Bolash, MD

Dr. Robert Bolash is the Medical Director of Utilization Management at Cedars-Sinai and an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. He received his medical degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine and trained in Interventional Pain Management at the Cleveland Clinic. He is a Fulbright Scholar and is Board Certified in both Anesthesiology and Pain Management. Dr. Bolash lectures internationally and is one of the Top 10% most cited clinician authors on Doximity.
He has experience as a Physician Advisor at two of the U.S. News and World Report’s top hospitals. At Cleveland Clinic, he managed secondary reviews for level of care across all of the Northeast Ohio affiliated hospitals. He currently addresses level of care and medical necessity for hospital stays in pediatric and adult patients at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles. He is an author of training material for Physician Advisors published by the American Case Management Association and provides education for both physicians and utilization review nurses regionally and nationally.
Dr. Bolash led the insourcing of concurrent denials for Cedars-Sinai, resulting in a 10-fold increase in cases handled by the division. Collections on previously denied cases were moved upstream in the Revenue Cycle facilitating timely cash collection, while decreasing downstream processing costs. He developed in-house processes for Artificial Intelligence to assist in the Utilization Management process, and implemented automation to decrease personnel needs for the UM Department.
